RE: ClassA gas

what is the redline on the V-10 as the tach is not marked. And do you climb at best torque rpm or best HP rpm?

RE: F53 OWNERS - Tips & Suggestions

DaveMac,
Only 17,000 miles on mine.
I changed the plugs as "Preventative Maintenance" - hopefully!
(Do a search here or at FTE on the V-10 spitting plugs for loads of info.)
I figured my options were:
* Just keep my fingers crossed that I'd be one of the lucky ones that didn't spit a plug.
* Wait till one blows - limp home - have to do the insert job as ea one blows or replace head.
* Do what I thought was the best plan for the engine:
Get the double platinum plugs & Anti-seize in there to battle the reaction of dissimilar metals. And to make sure they are torqued to the correct in/lbs to prevent thread damage.
The fairly low cost of parts & an afternoon of my time (including aggravation & scraped knuckles) seemed like a cheap insurance policy.
On the newer 3 valve engines the fixed the plug spitting problem, now you can't get them out without possibly breaking the plugs.:S
atleast on the exhaust manifold they changed the studs to stainless.

RE: F53 OWNERS - Tips & Suggestions

I look under my 08 F53 and Ford added the front and rear bars, plus the shocks and so far I haven't had any problems when passing trucks and the ride quality is good, this is my firts MOHO so I don't have anything to compare it with but I drive 65 to 69 mph and again no problems IMHO
The '08's have a heavy front and rear anti-sway bar and a front track bar, it does not have a rear track bar. It also has a Bilstien shocks. If you haven't done it already I would add a steering stabilizer I just installed a tru-center It has helped so far I have only driven it once though. I was at a RV show recently Ford had a F-53 chassis there, made it really nice to see what was on it, Ther also was a ford engineer I asked him why they didn't just go ahead and install a steering stabilizer at the factory since most owners add them anyways, He said they never thought of it but was a good Idea. So Mabe in the Future they will already have one.

RE: Help..... We need Opinions on what RV to Buy?

Allegro has customer service second to none IMHO, but like others have said depends on children, I do know Tiffin (Allegro) has a model with 2 bunks, and each bunk has its own fold down tv/video monitor.

RE: Has anyone regretted going bigger?

In a perfect world I would have two rigs, one for big trips, and another available for side trips. But in reality, I like big. Happy Trails.
Like the one I saw going up the I-5 in Snata Clarita the other day, it was a 40 or 42' pusher towing,a painted to match, class B.
Th only time I regretted it is when we upgraded from a 32' TT to a 40' 5er we went camping with some friends and couldn't get into the campground as our combo was too long to make the turns, we immediately downsized to a 32' class A.

RE: valve stem extenders

You can also purchase airless ones. These have no affect on the stems until you push on the end of the extenders. This is done with a stiff but flexable cable down the middle of the extender and when you push with the air chuck or tire gauge it pushes on the valve on the tire.
I removed my airless extender that I had put on and installed the regular braided extenders, the way the airless ones were installed they actually pressed the valve stems and leaked I couldn't get them to stop leaking. to get access to my inner duals and outer dual valve stems I need to remove my wheel liners.

RE: RV's and state weigh stations

Here is Californias Law.
California's "Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facilities" are commonly called weigh stations or truck scales. These facilities are operated by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), not by Caltrans. However, Caltrans receives many inquiries about weigh stations. This page is designed to answer some of those questions.
California Vehicle Code Section 2813 outlines who must stop at weigh stations and inspection stations:
2813. Every driver of a commercial vehicle shall stop and submit the vehicle to an inspection of the size, weight, equipment, and smoke emissions of the vehicle at any location where members of the California Highway Patrol are conducting tests and inspections of commercial vehicles and when signs are displayed requiring the stop. Every driver who fails or refuses to stop and submit the vehicle to an inspection when signs are displayed requiring that stop is guilty of a misdemeanor.
California Vehicle Code Section 260 defines "commercial vehicle" (bolding and underlining added):
260. (a) A "commercial vehicle" is a motor vehicle of a type required to be registered under this code used or maintained for the transportation of persons for hire, compensation, or profit or designed, used, or maintained primarily for the transportation of property.
(b) Passenger vehicles which are not used for the transportation of persons for hire, compensation, or profit and housecars are not commercial vehicles. ...
(c) Any vanpool vehicle is not a commercial vehicle.

RE: Brakes are locked

I would call a wrecker and try to winch the MH to pavement where the traction would break the shoes loose
Now let's think about this---traction--to have traction the wheels have to turn so it dont matter if he is on sheer ice, if the wheels dont turn he dont need traction--now once the wheels break loose and spin then ok we need traction to go.----I think you got a little more then rust going on there---it's time for a mechcanic to take a look see----by some of these post it is an argument for class 3 license, at least the air brake part. No air no go.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Try Webester for traction! He has stated that he can see the diaphragm packs and the torque rod moving depends on which brake he has the wedge type or cam rollers. He has also stated that he has air pressure. If the torque rods are moving then the spring brake has to be released. He has also stated the this is not the first time this has happened and torque has broken it loose before. Being able to move the wheels is better than driving a chisel between the drum and the brake shoes. I don't see how two dissimilar materials can rust together.
In Aircraft we are always fighting dissimilar metal corrosion, the different materials set up a galvanic action when in presence of moisture. Here is a link of explanation

RE: speed limit

Some people aren't capable of handling their rig at the speed limit and aren't smart enough to get out of the way.
There is a differance in pulling a trailer and driving a MH I moved from a 5er to a MH I could only drive 55 in my state with a trailer but a few times did get up to 65 to 70, downhill, and felt comfortable with it you don't feel to trailer swyig from side to sdie due to the road, but in a MH you are IN the taller vehicle and some do tend to sway more, i have been up to 65 (speed limit in Los Angeles area) but due to the road induced side to side sway (walmart wobble ):) at that speed I do not feel comfortable also it is a much heavier vehicle and takes longer to stop at that speed. so I usually drive at 60 to 62 some times slower going uphill. And to the poster about alaska your right it is not easy to pull over to let people by several years ago I was on a trip there and saw an accident caused by some one that was trying to be curteous, he tried to pull over to let cars go by but since the edge of the road was gravel when his trailer tires hit the gravle it caused both the trailer and car to flip totaling a brand new caddy and airstream.

RE: License plate seen on an RV

According to a study, (there's always a study) -- the average inheritance is completely spent within 7 months.
Mine probably won't take that long.
Ours was gone in abt 2 months, Mother in law passed away in June, our kids had their share within the month and we paid everything off, mortgage, cars etc and paid cash for our new MH. :)

RE: Towing double question

Things to considerare Gcwr, Hitch and ball weight rating, Tow bar weight rating, Overall length, Combined trailers have to have brakes and yes some state only allow one ball hitch.
I.E. California, first trailer must be a 5th wheel, the law also states the back trailer must be a boat. although I have seen others. California also requires a Class A license with doubles endoresment.
I know your talking about Colo. and Utah this is just an example.
Check with the states lEO's that you are going to be driving through.

RE: New law in California - text messaging while driving

Is there definite proof that the engineer was texting? Last I heard two teenagers said they received a text message from the engineer, but have not heard/read of a follow-up.
If not, this is how rumors start.
From the Washington Post n 9/18:
Federal transportation authorities say the engineer of a Southern California commuter train who ran a red light and slammed into a freight train last Friday. The National Transportation Safety Board in Washington said today that "records ... indicate that the engineer had sent and received text messages on the day of the accident, including some while he was on duty."
I didn't start the rumor. Federal transportation authorities and/or the Washington post started it.
At any rate, they are trying to understand why the operator ignored the red light. In the mean time California’s Public Utilities Commission passed an emergency order banning the use of cell phones and other personal electronic devices for anyone operating a train.
Another waste of tax payers dollars as the FRA, Federal Railroad Administration, already has that regulation. And as with most laws it will be hard to enforce unless they have cameras in the cabs watching every move the engineers makes. They also can't have any radios unless it is for train operation.

Yes he was texting, against metrolink and FRA rules, but they haven't said when he was texting it still could have been while he was sitting in the station the message he sent wouldn't take long to type.

RE: towing hybrids

I was warned by my dealer not to use the brake buddy On my Escape Hybrid, they actually recommeded the u.s.gear as it is active power brake friendly, even though they don't sell it or install it, they said they have had a few hybrids coming in with brake and tire damage from a brake buddy style system.
